Born on August 9, 1757, Elizabeth Schuyler – whom Hamilton called either Eliza or Betsey – remains invisible in most biographies of her husband and was certainly the most self-effacing “founding mother,” doing everything in her power to focus the spotlight exclusively on her husband. Her absence from the pantheon of early American figures is unfortunate, since she was a woman of sterling character. Beneath an animated, engaging façade, she was loyal, generous, compassionate, strong willed, funny, and courageous. Short and pretty, she was utterly devoid of conceit and was to prove an ideal companion for Hamilton, lending a strong home foundation to his turbulent life.[Ron Chernow, Alexander Hamilton, p. 130]

I’m so proud of Lin, Phillipa and Leslie for all the oportunities that are coming for them and so thankful for the time they dedicated to Hamilton. They are so talented and such good people, it’s obvious they deserve all the great things they will get. And it’s weird because I’m most likely never going to see Hamilton on Broadway anyway, but even with all this, I can’t help but feel sad they’re not part of that cast anymore, at least in this first moment.
